Sad

I am so sad for all the people in Colorado and the rest of the country, after the senseless act of violence that occurred by one young man.  I think it is time for us as a country to make it impossible to buy guns so easily, and 6,000 rounds of ammunition over the Internet.  Watching the news coverage it is impossible to even fathom how many people have been touched by this tragedy personally, or like me watching in disbelief.  I am not a fan of guns and never will be.  I am not a fan of using a weapon to hurt a defenseless human or a defenseless animal.  Something has to change.  This could have happened anywhere and to any of our children.  So sad.

I am off to Atlanta tomorrow for the Y National Swim Meet at Georgia Tech's beautiful aquatic facility.  I am one of the drivers shuffling swimmers back and forth to the pool, running to get lunch and playing Mom to those whose Mom is not there.  Wish me luck.

It is so very sad when people die so needlessly. No great problem with guns here in the UK, we just aren't a gun culture, for which I am immensely grateful.

Hope you get time to enjoy your time in Atlanta, between your Mom/stand-in Mom duties x

It's devastating. I agree that it should be impossible to have that kind of weaponry so readily available. Be careful on your way to Atlanta- the "momless" swimmers are so lucky to have you as a stand-in.

It is so senseless and awful. I don't understand why the exit in the movie theater didn't have an alarm go off when it was opened. His planning was so methodical. There can be no plea of insanity.

Hope you have a safe and wonderful trip. Best wishes and blessings, Tammy

It is truly tragic, and what really stuns me is that I ended up dropping out of a wine club because the UPS guy had to keep verifying that I was over 21, so it was just too difficult to get it delivered, but some guy can mail order that much ammunition without problem? I've already seen emails from the gun nut culture saying that this horrible event is a reason for MORE guns--it just makes me sick. First, it's capitalizing on a tragedy, and secondly, the fact that these things happen more in the US than any other country should make us think about our gun culture mentality.

Very, very sad indeed and we in the Uk are certainly not immune to it.Think Dunblane,Hungerford and the recent actions of a madman who went berserk with firearms in his hometown in England.
Enjoy Atlanta, Meredith, give my love to Rhett if you should bump into him!
Thank you for passing by mine and leaving your sweet comment. I'm repeating your mantra to myself this week as I prepare for the wedding ....'think fab,not drab!'.Love it.:)

Yes, the Colorado shooting was another tragic reminder of how precious each day really is.

On a lighter note, good luck with your SuperMom duties in Atlanta, and have a safe trip.

Hi Meredith, Yes it is so sad and senseless!
i just don't know what is happening to some of our human race! I really dislike guns and always have.

But, I think you are a wonderful, fabulous and special Mom to your sons and wish you well and a good time. I send you strength to handle all the running around!!

Hope the swimming is going well!

I agree entirely with you on the gun issue. We had a terrible massacre here about 15 years ago, and it caused a lot of tightening up on gun restrictions. Of course, it was easier here as we don't have the constitutional issue like you do. But guns and ammunition really can be controlled better, without impacting on people's ability to use them legally. My thoughts go out to all affected by Colorado, and other gun crimes.

We live in a world where evil people dwell and where mad men commit needless acts of terror and violence on the innocent. The scary thing is that it can happen anywhere and at anytime. Even being in your own home is not always a safe haven. This sort of thing makes me angry, and it is a hard pill to swallow that one should forgive. I have to think that one should not kill either. There are 2 sides to that coin.
