Number 2

I promise not to go all crazy posting only finished projects, because you see after the scarf I am making for my friend, it will be a long, long time before there is another finished project.  So for now I am going to bask in the glory of finished project number 2.

Number two is the same pattern as number 1, just a lot longer.  I was going to make sleeves, but when I attempted them I did not like how the join was looking, so I ripped it out and decided to go for length instead.
At the underarms I switched to a larger needle to make it close better in front.  From looking at the top photo it looks like the joke is on me, but when trying it on it really did close more.  I found this  very fun pin in my button box.  I believe it was a clearance item at Joann's years ago.

The pin is fun because I can use it  all sorts of ways.  Sort of like a shawl pin, buttons are so permanent.  I think I like this sweater, but not near as much as Number 1.  It's lovely and all (and I am not looking for compliments here) it is just a bit 70's to me.  Maybe it is the length, maybe it is the way the yarn changes, maybe it is all in my head.  You know one of my greatest fears is someone posting me on What Not To Crochet.  Have you seen that blog, it is a riot, well that is if your crocheted item is not posted on it.  I have this fear, (oh no here we go again, you have heard it all before) that sometimes the things I make are, well for lack of a better word....tacky.  Not everything I make that is for sure, but some things....well it is there somewhere in the back of my head nagging me, tacky, tacky, tacky.  So I am just going to push that thought away and go with this
sweater/vest/longer cardi type of thingy.

The button up close and blurry, but you get the idea.  The yarn is Universal Yarn Classic Shades, I forgot to write down the color.  I used a whopping 580 yards on this baby, so my total for 2013 is 960 yards so far.  I think this is very fun keeping track of finished projects and the yarn used to make them.  I don't want you to think that all I do is sit home and crochet, although that sounds ideal doesn't it?  I had four whole days off in a row last week, Thursday through Sunday and I tried to make the most of it.  Lots of paperwork to complete, house cleaning to do but also time to crochet.  Now it is back to reality.  No more sleeping in, taking my time in the morning and sitting down with a hook in my hand at random hours of the day, but those days were glorious that is for sure.

Hope your transition back to reality is smooth, and hope you are finding time to do something you love, even if it is only for a few minutes.

Well, I for one love it. I don't think it looks 70ish at all. I love ripples, so this is very pretty to me...and the yarn is lovely, too.

You've got to get rid of that inner critic that keeps lying to you and telling you your stuff is tacky...your stuff is not tacky, it's lovely. You have inspired me so many times with the lovely things you make.

I think we all have that inner voice...I get it all the time, especially when I write stories. But you have to push it a side, because if you listen you'll never do anything...and that would really be a shame, because you bring so much joy to all of us by getting to see the lovely things you make.

I can't wait to see what's up next....and you know what (don't tell anyone) but I am having the odd thought about knitting again, too...but don't say anything...I'm suppose to just be a hooker!

Hugs and blessings to you dear friend

Well, I missed your post on Sunday, but both of your sweaters turned out great! I love them both. Man, must be a really fast crocheter to get those both done in so little time. How satisfying and fun!

Meredith! It is a very cute sweater! I think it is very pretty and you did a fabulous job on it! The pin is darling on it too. I had no idea there was a blog about what not to crochet...egad...I hope nothing of mine is on there! I didn't know there was such a thing. I am not worried because I haven't posted hardly any crochet online. I took apart that cowl I was doing. Figured I needed to do it right or not at all. It's a learning experience. ~Hugs, Patti

I love your projects!!! Love the pin! So retro!!!
I need to work on my own thing for sure. But first, I have a couple of orders to complete.
Wouldn't it be awesome if we could sit and crochet and knit all day?!!!!
Hugs,
Kris

I think it looks great - not 70s at all! In fact, I like it even more than your first one!

That is soooo not tacky its beautiful. And so not 70's either. I think its very hip and very now. The colours are stunning and remind me of the sea when abroad. Its hard to crochet at the best of times but to make an item of clothes something else. Be very proud, dee x

I gotta agree - I love the finished sweater! I don't think it's dated at all! I love the colors! And like Patti above, I'm hoping nothing I have crocheted is on that blog.... I have to go check it out!!!

Hi Meredith
I ahve started to reply in my comments field lately as an experiment to stay on top of communicating with you and all my other lovely crafty friends. Thank you so much for cheering me on. I should write that on a big poster and put in every room of the house:
I AM A GREAT MOTHER!!!

PS Love this cardie of yours. Would look absolutely adorable with my black dress or just with a white tank top and jeans in summer. Love the colors! :D Not tacky. Not at all! :D

It's beautiful. The colours remind me of sea glass. xx

I like it, and looking at the other comments I'm not alone.

What is tacky anyway? Just something not to a person's taste. The same something might be a another person's idea of heaven. Just make what appeals to you Meredith and we'll like it too I'm sure.

Happy crocheting :D

I like the sweater and the button is just perfect for it... It's so nice to have a few days to relax and not do much and enjoy doing the things that makes you happy. This weekend I have one extra day and next weekend ill have a 4 day weekend. Hope to get lots of laundry and knitting done! I just love it ( sometimes I wish I was retired ...wining the lottery would work also :)).
Have a great week my dear friend.
Watch my blog ... I'm going to post a surprise for you on Friday! :)

Number 2 is beautiful. What's not to like? But of course, if you can choose between two items ... :-)

It's lovely and not at all tacky. I always think the colors I use are tacky, but I don't bother. If one person finds it tacky someone else will find it awesome!

Well, I think it is lovely. But I always feel like lots of what I make is tacky, too. I don't have a knack for creating -- sometimes inspiration strikes and I do come up with something nice and different, but I always feel like my work pales in comparison to that of others. I think we need to shuck those feelings aside and just be grateful for the ability to create. I make time for it every day in spite of all the other stuff that should be done. :) And I could care less what anyone thinks about what I wear. I'm not dressing for anyone but me. Hugs, Tammy

OMG Meridith! Both of your sweaters are gorgeous! I love the colors you used. Mine is just a plain off white but I wanted it to go with everything so I guess it will. Did you block yours? I'm thinking of trying to block mine but I "think" that a lot and never do. So far I love the pattern. I am making mine extra long to cover up my "muffin top" that seems to be growing now that I'm over 55! Take care my friend! (((HUGS))) Eileen :)

Oh...I almost forgot...I love Taci's sheep. Can't wait for the pattern. So cute!
