Christmas Creating

It seems like Christmas is creeping up at us at an alarming speed.  Those who live in the United states are celebrating Thanksgiving late this year, that is just confusing me even more.  I seem to think I have an extra week in my calender, and it surprises me everyday when I realize the date.  Today we have exactly 30 days until the big day, I think I am going to need some help.  I still have all the decorating to do, more shopping, wrapping and shipping.  It sounds very daunting when I put it all down into words, but maybe putting it into words will help stop it all from swirling around in my head!

As for the creating, well I actually think I am on target with my holiday goals.  I have really become quite insane, walking around my house crocheting everywhere I go.  I stand in the kitchen and crochet, I read blogs and crochet, I put my feet up in the afternoon and crochet.  I actually spent my entire Sunday afternoon watching pro football I did not even care about just so I could crochet.  If I could clean my house and fold laundry while I crocheted I think I would.

So for now I have accomplished this.

Fourteen cup cozies are completed, one to go.

All of them have been made from Cascade Yarns, Superwash Paints. I used a H hook and 440 yards of yarn, and frankly ran out of yarn before I could complete number fifteen.  This was stash yarn, so hooray on no yarn expense for these presents.

All I had to do was buy the cups, and a few buttons, and of course some hot chocolate to go in them.

I think these will be nice little presents for people I care about, just a little something to tell them I am thinking about them this Holiday Season.

Up next is finishing this scarf for Mr. 20 year old.  I bought this yarn last year in Columbus, when visiting him to move him out of his dorm.  Perfect Ohio State colors!  I have enough for one scarf and some fringe.

Now that he is bringing a fellow swimmer home for the Holiday's I thought I would knit him up a scarf, too.  It gets chilly up there in Ohio, especially for a Florida boy.  Too bad I didn't buy more of this yarn when I had the chance.  Well Mr. 20 year old's friend will have to suffer with Lion Brand Wool-Ease.  I am not spending a lot on knitted items for boys who are going to lose them.

After this I have a shawl to make for a friend and then I think I am done.  I better get busy, only 30 days to go!

How is your creating going?

Oh Mere, I LOVE the mugs with their cozies and goodies! What a great idea and gift!

And I can only imagine that the Ohio State scarf will be a hit. As for the friend, he'll probably just be blown away that you made him something at all. :-)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Yikes, are you sure it's only thirty days? That's four weeks! I'm panicking now. I haven't done anything yet. Sigh. Hope you have a good week Meredith, and a happy thanksgiving.

Hi Meredith,
I'm sure your so. And his friend will love the warmth of their new scarves-and they're the perfect color! Your mug coziness turned out so adorable. I especially like the wooden flower button. :-). You sound like me, grabbing every moment you can to knit and crochet.
Enjoy your thanksgiving my friend.
Blessings,
Betsy

You've done such a tremendous job with those little cup cosies Meredith and they look sooooo good all lined up - well done girl! I've just started on a few of those after being inspired by you, thank you m'dear!
I hope both 20 yr-olds will take care of their cosy scarfs and not lose them - they're well worth looking after, and your son's friend will be so delighted you would do this for him!
So what are you crocheting right now as you read this, I wonder? The last shawl perhaps? Have a great week lovely, warm hugs, Joy xo

The mugs are sooo cute! The secretaries at school would love them! I have four I give to and a couple colleagues. I usually bake goodies and give them those with a little something...this would be perfect! Have a happy Thanksgiving! :) Laughed out loud at "clean the house and crochet"! If only that was possible.... :)

The pressure is on, each year I tell myself I am going to be early with getting all my stuff done, but here I go again, never enough time to do it all. I think those cup cozies are a nice little gift and whoever gets one will love them. I love the buttons you chose. The scarf is perfect Ohio State colors. Chances are they won't be forgotten, more like they will be stolen by someone who will want it. College kids always have a way with "borrowing" stuff and not returning it.
(((HUGS))) Susanne :)

How CUTE those mugs are! I can't decide which one I like best. I had to laugh at the picture of you crocheting all over the house! Too funny!

Meredith I just love your cups and their cosies. What a brilliant idea for a gift. Your sons scarf looks lovely too.
You have done loads and all the shawls you were making in the summer. I must sort myself out and get organised, when I saw your only 4 weeks to Christmas, I suddenly realised it's not that far away.

You have been busy! They look great all together.

I am not doing very much Christmas crafting this year, I have made a start on what I have planned though, so I think (I hope) I will have plenty of time.

(Oh dear, famous last words!!)

It always seems like plenty of time, then woosh it's virtually here! I adore your mug cosies, what a cute idea and loving the buttons you found for them :) xx

I'm super impressed with all the cup cosies you have made! And I think both Mr. 20 and his friend are going to be very happy when they get their scarves. Florida Boy is probably going to be so cold when he gets to Ohio he wouldn't care if his scarf was bright pink and purple. :-)

Hello, my industrious sister! The cozies, mugs and hot chocolate are the perfect combination. Give my nephew a big and kiss from his Aunt. Give BOTH nephews a hug and kiss. Wait, give my furry nephew a hug and kiss as well. And one for that adorable little Z.

I love the cup cosies! This is such a great idea. I am sure the whole package will be much appreciated; who doesn't love cocoa, and mint cocoa to boot? Yum. The scarves will be much-appreciated too, I am sure. You are a pretty awesome mom to not only host one of his friends but to make him his own scarf too. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

You have been busy Meredith and well done on making so many handmade gifts, they will be loved I'm sure. I haven't really started yet but I don't have as many to make as you, a lot of my friends wouldn't appreciate a crocheted gift so I'm only making for those who will and then something very small just a token gesture really. Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Swiss Miss dark chocolate. How funny! I'm sure people will love the mugs. So nice of you. I would watch any ball game if I could crochet or knit in front of the tv. ;-) Hugs to you and take a rest. Chirstmas is coming anyway. You'd better take it easy and look relaxed and beautiful under the tree! :-)

Such a great idea for a small gift, with a special and personal touch.
And the red/grey yarn looks divine! I am sure even the other red will look nice :-)

Love your mug hugs they are great and beautiful buttons too. Really lovely little present to give to someone who is important to you and I am sure they will go down an absolute treat. I am sure your son will appreciate his scarf oh and his friend too. I agree with you about the losing bit, no point wasting money on expensive yarn if there is a high chance of it getting lost! Happy thanksgiving for this week and here's to counting down to Christmas xox Penny

Thirty days to go? Well, you'll be finished by this weekend with the way you're going! ;-) You are making so many lovely, thoughtful gifts! I love it all, the colours, the patterns...though I'm a Penn Stater and I'd prefer a blue-and-white scarf... Chrissie xxx

Hello Meredith and thanks for your visit to my blog and your comment for the Babies first Christmas Stocking.
What a great idea your cup cosy's are, and mmmmm hot chocolate too. A lovely handmade gift for your dear friends and all from stash wool too. A win win idea.

I am always so disorganised with organising my Christmas. Every year I say to myself I will start earlier lol. I have gifts to get this weekend. For the actual Holiday I have very little time off work, just 2 days so I will be doing my visiting in January. My son is home for Christmas though so I'd better get organised sometime soon x
