Lusting After Leaves

Yes, you read that correctly I am lusting after leaves.  I have been merrily knitting away on my shawl, (well sort of cause I am in the boring part), when I took a break and ran across, the Vite Cowl by Kristi Johnson.  I believe I found this beauty on Pinterest, which led me to Ravelry. It was like I was being driven by unknown forces when I saw this pattern.  I got up, looked through my stash, grabbed some needles and got started.  I believe I left my shawl right in he middle of a row.  And now, frankly, I am obsessed (I know big surprise here).  The pattern is quick and fun, and because you are using chunky yarn it is super fast.

Come on and take a look, but if you are a knitter I warn you if you don't want to drop everything and knit this I suggest you shut your eyes and scroll right to the comment section and just say hello to me.  Remember I warned you!

I used Caron's, Vickie Howell Sheepish is a grayish beige, I am not sure if they are still making this yarn or not.  I used two strands held together and knit this one with size 13 needles.  I made a scarf instead of a cowl. Oh this baby is soft and lovely.

I was so excited to make this I broke up 6 skeins of this yarn I had set aside to make a shawl.  Really I was obsessed.

I found this chunky yarn in my stash, I have no idea what is is, where it is from, and why I have it.  Sort of sad isn't it?   I knew I did not have enough to make much of anything but I kept it and look what it finally became.  I believe there is just two pattern repeats in this cozy, close to the neck cowl.

Then yesterday at knitting, where I gladly handed out copies of this pattern to everyone, I started this.

More stash yarn, Lion Brand Yarn, Nature's Choice Organic Cotton in the color mustard.  I have to tell you I am not a fan of the colors mustard or rust.  I am not sure why I even have this yarn, but it is Autumn, well at least for most of you and I just had to make this.  I did not do all the repeats because I  ran out of yarn.  This is soft and yummy and so Autumn-ish.

This cowl was also made with size 13 needles, I think I am in love.  Really you all must think all I do is sit around and knit, not true at all my friends, this pattern is so fast it makes me look like a speed knitter.  I believe Miss Mustard will be for me, the other two will go into my Christmas present bin.  All stash yarn, I love that.  I have two more planned to make, I swear I can not get enough.  Yes, you are still seeing the Bella Sweater on Miss Caroline the Dress Form, she simply refuses to stop wearing it.  I believe she thinks I made it just for her.

It is dark and dreary today, I just love it when I can stay home when it rains.  I woke up to a dark room with rain pittering on my windows, it was Heaven. Max and I had an extra long snuggle in bed.

Look at those dark clouds!  So today I am working on paperwork, boxing up Halloween and decorating for Thanksgiving.  I don't have many Thanksgiving decorations so that should be speedy. Oh, and of course knitting.  My husband is still away so that gives me a little extra time to get things done.

Look a few mustard colored leaves!  Maybe it is Autumn here after all.

Enjoy your weekend.

Oh my goody-ness that looks like the most divine pattern and a quick knit with chunky yarn...oh dear, I might just have been distracted from my very repetitive crochet shawl I am currently making :o) x Enjoy the rest of your weekend too xox Penny

The lion brand natures choice organic cotton may be JUST what I need for my new vest....Hmmmm

YOUR work is amazing and I love when a project moves us so!

LOve the leaves and the way they trail along down the front!!!!

Meredith, this is utterly beautiful and so tempting as I decided not to scroll down either. I love that it knits up rapidly as I either knit big things or dinky things just so long as they are fast. I can see my having to acquire size 13 needles too.

I love the autumn colour theme too and was out collecting leaves in the garden as another blog had suggested using them with paper punches, so I'll let you know how this goes.

Max sounds like a big hugger so I am surprised he hasn't decided to claim one himself!

Does look dark and gloomy there, it's the same here.

Love that you are so creative.

Wow! I love them all, but especially the blue one. SO pretty.

We had a pretty dreary day here too. But, we still got outside a little bit. We went to an Audi/Fiat car show down near Disney. It was wonderful without such big crowds. You could really enjoy the cars.

Oh Meredith!
How gorgeous these are!!! I am always drawn to a knitted pattern with lacework leaves in it. I MUST try this pattern.
I'm happy you are seeing a few signs of Fall there. We sure have it going on in Illinois. Lots of rain and a blanket of golden leaves all over my yard.
Happy weekend,
Danette

Love the pattern. Very fall like. Darker here today also. But we did get out to a marsh to bird watch. Nice day for a drive after a long week at work. Your friends/rellatives are going to be thrilled with their presents!
Do you do any weaving any more? Just thought about the beautiful thing you use to show us.

I love the pattern as a scarf and the colour is just perfect. Even though almost spring is almost over here it is grey and dreary here too! Cheers, Karen

Geez, Meredith, no wonder you stopped mid-shawl, this pattern is stunning! I don't even know how to properly knit and I want to stop everything and make this! :-) I love how you showed different versus and colours - it really is versatile! - and I can't believe it's as easy as you say...I'm itching to pick up my needles again and continue learning to knit so I can make this! Oh wow Meredith I love the pattern too! my favourite is the scarf the first one, it looks so soft and delicious. It's lovely when something just grabs you like that and you have to make it no matter what. :)

Love the pattern and all the ways you knit it! Amazing what we can do when our "helpmates" are away, isn't it? LOL

Isn't it great when you find something that you really enjoy doing - and pretty much instant gratification with size 13 needles! They all look lovely - I think I'm favouring the mustard one but the grey looks so snuggly. It's dark and drizzly here too so I think it's definitely a day for some comfort crafting - the ironing is going to have to wait (again!) Enjoy the rest of your Sunday x Jane

The leaves pattern is lovely! You are amazing the things that you can make!! Love the first shawl - the leaves really show and the gold is lovely too. It needs some length so you can see the pattern. Can you imagine with gold, red, yellow and orange??? OR in various green shades like olive/avocado green, hunter green, and a lighter green?? Could I purchase a multi green shawl from you?? Seriously!! Please let me know-- suzzz45@yahoo.com
I admire you lovely work-art!!

I love the pattern. I can see why you had to drop everything to whip one, two and three things using the leaf design. All the colors are eye-catching. Mustard color has slowly grown on me. It is warm and not so out there yelling "LOOK AT ME!" I think it is more an adult color, more so than the lemon drops yellow that just seems right for babies and youngsters. I guess it is all a matter of taste. You are using up your stash, it'll soon be time to go out shopping for more yarn. I love the comment about your dress form and the sweater. It made me laugh.
Have a great week.

Two words - utterly delicious!xxx

The chunky yarn makes look delicious, Miss Caroline is hogging the Bella sweater, shame on her lol.
It is a grey miserable and wet day here and I have spent the day with my knitting in-between a few household chores and getting ready for my trip away tomorrow.
Thanks for dropping by my blog, I am enjoying my new colour changing project even though the needles are just US size 3 (3.25mm) so nowhere as speedy as your size 13's.

That is indeed a wonderful pattern, and your scarf is lovely. You're right, I do want to make one too. I love rainy days in as well. Nothing quite as lovely as rain lashing against the windows when everyone is inside and cosy. I'm very happy to have found your blog, and I'll be following along.

I loved this post! I know just what you mean when you say it's like you were taken over, you just had to make it right away. Except it's crochet or sewing that does that for me. I can knit, but it doesn't come easily to me. I love the long grey one best but they're all gorgeous. x

No wonder you're addicted - WHAT a lovely pattern! I don't do mustard either but I do like that cotton version.

Enjoy your grey weather and your snuggles with Max. (And your alone time.) :)

Oh Meredith I love this pattern too-just gorgeous. That bulky wool yarn I hand dyed recently would be beautiful in this pattern too. ( I do not knit so may need to find a knitter friend to make me one)
its always so fun when something works up quickly-have an awesome new week

Meredith, these are all so pretty. I especially love that soft grey.

I love autumn too. We had a big wind storm that lasted for hours and hours over the weekend. It was very cozy and dramatic, and really welcomed November in.

Love that leaf pattern. I was just looking at some leaves that we have hanging in the window and they reminded me of my Noro yarn (which I made into a Shalom, that I'm intending to take apart and make something else with). I've seen a lovely looking vest on ravelry called Nordic Trails and I was thinking of adapting the cable patten to one that looked like leaves, maybe I can adapt your leaf pattern for my purposes!!

Love the leaves, I did a leaf blanket recently called fallen leaves I think, Jared flood, but I may have misremembered all of that. That ochre colour is lovely, not my colour either but I've been drawn to it recently....I think seeing it on Penny, L is for love blog.
