Meeting Dee

Have you ever met Dee from Tangled Up In Sticks And String?  Dee and I have been friends for several years.  She lives on the other side of Orlando, not too far but still far enough away from me that the opportunity to meet is rare.  We banter back and forth about lots of things, especially life in the great, warm state of Florida.  Dee was going to be over my way so she asked if I was free to meet her at our favorite yarn store, Knit n' Knibble.  I was, and so we did!

We met on Saturday at the yarn store, shopped and sat and knit for a while chatting like old friends.  I felt like we were catching up after a few months away from each other, just like friends do who have known each other a long time.  Which is interesting because this is the first time we have actually met.

Here we are out to lunch.  Dee and her husband Steve (the proud owner of many of Dee's hand knit socks and an amazing blanket) treated me to lunch at this quaint restaurant, Le Mouton Noir Bakehouse in Tampa.  Do you see me wearing Bella the Beautiful?

The bakehouse was decorated in all things sheep as the name suggests.  There was a tall ladder lit up with Christmas lights and sheep decorations.

There was also this handsome fellow below.  In the top photo he looks like he is investigating Dee's shoe.  I think he is trying to peek at the hand knit socks she is wearing.

Steve told me Dee likes to take a pictures of her latest knitting project on this fellow, so I gave it a try.  The never ending ruffle shawl is having a great time in this photo shoot.

And look what Dee made for me, this gorgeous cowl.  Can you believe it?  It is so soft and beautiful.  Dee is quite a gifted knitter.  A knitted item from a kntting friend, that is about perfect to me.

We had such a lovely visit, Dee is just how I thought she would be warm, friendly and very funny.  Steve was lots of fun, too and I might add very spoiled by all the knitted items he receives from Dee.  I can't wait until they return in April, so we can meet up again.

I treated myself to a couple of things while I was at the yarn store.  Well actually I have been treating myself a lot lately.  My local yarn store has gone out of business and they had a tremendous sale the last few weeks.  I have bought more yarn and needles than I need.  But for 35-75% off I really had no choice!!!!  Yarn doesn't go to waste and doesn't have an expiration date so I think I will end up using most of it.  But for now I am officially on a yarn diet, no more new yarn for me for quite a while.    Hope there aren't any more sales!

Have you treated yourself to anything lately?  I sure hope you have because you deserve it.

What fun to be able to meet up and share a day with each other - it sounds like a perfect day to me!
I haven't managed to get to the sales yet (we still have a house guest to be entertained) but I am hopeful for next week and some yummy yarn is definitely on my "wanties" list :-)

Glad you like the cowl.

I love my mug cozies. And, we haven't enjoyed the chocolate yet, but we WILL!

The yarn you bought is very pretty, but I have a question. What is the thing on TOP of the yarn? I saw you buy it but forgot to ask about it.

See you soon!

It sounds like a lovely day out Meredith,it's funny that all craft loving people seem like old friends even when you meet for the first time. When I have met ladies from Loving Hands my charity group for the first time we always get on so well and always have loads to talk about. Your wool looks lovely, such a gorgeous shade, I was very good today our local Aldi store was selling yarn I went in and looked but didn't buy! that's a first for me, truth is I have no where to put any more yarn so I'm trying to be good. :)

What a wonderful time you both must have had, and the setting for your meet-up looked perfect!

I must admit that I have treated myself to a new cross-stitch kit, ordered from Amazon as it was so cheap, and it is coming to me from over your side of the pond!

How lovely to meet new "yarny" friends :-) I guess you will be stash-busting this year too. But that is why we do it...stash-bust in order to buy more later ;-)
That fucsia yarn looks delicious

I too was wondering about the thing on top of the yarn - some kind of shuttle or bobbin for weaving?

How great to meet up with Dee and Steve - she seems like a very fun person. And I love those sheep decorations at the bakehouse! Gorgeous cowl and yarn, too.

Wishing you a wonderful and headache-free New Year, Mere. Thanks for being such a sweet bloggy friend. :)

Every now and then we need to treat ourselves to something. You are so right, yarn does not have an expiration date and so stocking up for later is always a good idea, and who can turn down a sale, not me. I love it when blogger friends can get a chance to meet each other and visit for awhile, such fun. There is just that instant tie to each other because we all share a common interest. I think we also like to learn new things and everyone is so willing to help you learn.
(((HUGS))) Susanne :)

Wonderful! I am so glad you and Dee and her husband had a good time together. I love all the sheep you showed us, and your new bargain yarn:) Your new yarn thingy looks familiar...is it some sort of shuttle for weaving? The cowl Dee made for you is beautiful. She is skilled!

How nice! I'm so glad you were able to meet in person. Your new yarn is really pretty. I just treated myself to a couple of skeins of yarn tonight, when I was putting in an order for yarn to make a gift.

It looks like you had a wonderful day Meredith. A day with a blogging friend, (I can attest to the fun times that brings.) and then to go to a place with lots of sheep to play with, I'm sure it was great fun. Dee looks like a great a person to be with and I hope you'll get to meet with her more often.
And you're right. There are no expiration dates on yarn so keep right on treating yourself.
Blessings,
Betsy

How lovely to meet a blogging friend! And what a great place to meet....we are very lucky to have a local yarn shop as they are few and far between, but there is barely enough room for a few customers let alone a sit down and knit!

I've never thought about yarn not expiring....sounds like a very good argument to me!

I love seeing what you are creating, so look forward to all that yarn being made into lots of lovely things!

So glad you got to meet up...it's always fun to meet up with friends of the heart who understand our "need" for yarn and things.

Love that sheep that is wearing your "never ending ruffle shawl"....so cool...the shawl and the sheep! :)

Wishing you a very Happy New Year dear friend.

I was waiting for you to say that you came away with one of those too cute little sheeps-I love that little white sheep just too adorable!
I splurged on beads for me, and I also bought many items from my soap supplier too-they were having their big big end of year sale-so couldn't help myself either-lol
I love that -yarn has no expiration date.
Happy New Year Meredith so glad to have met you this year

What a wonderful visit! That's great and the sheep! :) I haven't treated myself to anything in a good while, mostly using up stash, but I do have something on the list as soon as I find the right yarn. :) Hope you have a great New Years!

It is so much fun to meet up with a knitting friend! It looks like you had a great time.

My treats to myself have been the two Kate Davies' kits that she had on her website this month - a mini hot water bottle cosy and a pair of socks. I plan to cast on one of the projects tomorrow.

Happy New Year!!!

How lovely your meet up sounds and I love the little bobble sheep. I'm a fan of sheep so long as they don't actually smell sheepy or sneak up on me!

I love your cowl and though sad about the yarn shop what a bargain!
