A nap, a walk, chocolate, tea and yarn therapy

Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts.  I swear I do not like to whine but sometimes I just have to.  I so appreciate all of your well wishes.  I think I am better today, not perfect but better.  Yesterday afternoon I went to the yarn store all by myself.  It will be the last time I go as it closes down at the end of the month.  When I went with Little Buddy a week ago, I bought a few things, but I was not able to maneuver his stroller in all the nooks and crannies.  Yesterday I took my time, I walked around and touched all the yarn.  I thought about this yarn and then that yarn, and then I finally made a decision.  Here is what I bought.

Sidar Snugly Baby Bamboo in Yummy Yellow, 80% bamboo and 20% wool, 832 yards of soft yumminess.  I bought 400 yards of four other colors when I went with Little Buddy, possibly to make scarves for his therapists for Christmas presents.  Who would not love a scarf made from this?  As a hard working therapist myself, I think this would be a great gift.   The color is actually a bit softer than this picture, it is not so mustardish.

This Ella Rae Lace Merino kept pulling me back to see it.  I looked at it when I went with Little Buddy,  the color is so intriguing, not something I would usually buy.  There is a subtle shift in the darkness of the color. Although it is called Mauve, I find that to be so 90's don't you?  I think it deserves a better name but for the life of me I can't think of one.  Made of extra fine merino, 920 yards for $28 is a bargain.

And last but certainly not least is good ole Cascade Heritage sock yarn in Purple Hyacinth.  Made of 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon, 874 yards of purple loveliness for $16.80.  I  am not even sure what I will make with these yarns, but they were too beautiful to pass up at 30% off.

This morning I took a nice long walk, I am trying to get close to 4 miles in each day on the weekends, and 3 miles in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, with maybe a mile in with Max and Little Buddy on those evenings.  I am trying hard to get back into shape so I can be a strong and healthy Mom for all my kids.

Right now I am eating these yummy chocolate chips sweetened with barley malt, drinking herbal tea and writing to all of you.  I took a really long nap this afternoon trying to prevent a massive headache, something I rarely do.  It was blissful, just snuggling under a blanket knowing I had some time because Little Buddy was a sleep too.

The skies are dark as this wonderful thunderstorm rolls in.  You know my love of rain and storms.  I love to hear the rumbling of the clouds and see the subtle shift in the light as the storm moves through.

This is what I see right outside my craft room window right this moment.  Aren't those dark clouds gorgeous?

With my recent yarn additions my stash is very healthy.  I am now officially working from stash.  I have some things planned out that will help use up some of this beautiful yarn.  I love it that I can step right into my room and open these doors wide and feel like I have my own little yarn store.  Yarn calms me and is such a deep pleasure to me.  I am so sad to see my favorite yarn store closing.  There is another store much closer to me, but I have some issues with the owner, I just feel she isn't very nice.  I have not been there for years, so now I will have to decide if it is worth giving her my business or if I should just wait and buy yarn while I am away, or order online.  For now I don't have to worry, I have enough to keep me busy for months.

The rest of today is about watching the World Cup, weaving, and maybe watching a movie tonight if I can stay awake.  I love a blissful day that just unfolds at it's own pace.

How is your day going?

Sounds like you're feeling more like your cheery self. Hurrah! Nothing like a little yarn therapy for that, eh? You scored! I was sorry to hear about that store closing, too, as we'd been there a couple of times while in FLA. Have a restful, fun weekend!

How nice to stroll around your favourite yarn store, it is such a shame it's closing. You have bought some gorgeous additions to your stash and your stash looks so yummy. I'm so jealous lol.

I look forward to seeing your makes over the next few months.

It's great you're taking care of yourself to be a healthy mum. When you said slim women can be unhealthy too in a previous post it rang a bell for me. I often feel I am underweight and I am certainly not a fit person. Something I need to address for myself I think.

This weekend I am working on a new crochet project, one small clue, it is a summer project and i am making for myself again, my oh my, I am spoiling myself!

Take care
xx

Your photos are so beautiful and full of colour! As for that gorgeous yarn, I definitely wouldn't call it mauve... I think maybe deep raspberry! I made some cupcake icing with raspberry juice and the colour was very similar... So glad you have had a peaceful day and some Meredith time - but as for your previous post, we can't all feel sunny every day, it would be just exhausting!! Frankly I admire your honesty, it's brave to admit when things are tough. Sending lots of love!

Glad your feeling better :) An afternoon by yourself in the yarn store is very therapeutic :) I think the mauve yarn looks like a "teaberry". That's what i'm calling it... I love your yarn stash! All that yarny goodness is going to make some great projects! :)

Walk, nap, chocolate, tea ( or coffee ... ) and YARN! Sounds like the perfect day to me :) Glad you are feeling a bit brighter today :)
I have serious yarn cupboard envy now though. My stash is very healthy (a bit too healthy) and doesn't quite fit in its allotted space ...... then again if the space had space (IYSWIM) then I'd just buy more! LOL. Hope the rest of your weekend stays "up" xxx

All you needed was some "me" time to perk you up! Good for you! Your yarn purchases probably did a lot for your sense of well-being. Dayle and I went to lunch at a place called "Biscuits" - we had biscuits and gravy and eggs and ham.. yum. Then to Coastal Farm Store for a new fan and some chicken food and a new bird feeder and food. Now home.
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Hi Meredith so happy you had such a nice relaxing do what comes kinda day. I love when that happens and you are able to go with it! A nap how nice I hope you did stop that developing headache. Love all your yarns, a nice stash indeed. Hope Sunday proves to be as relaxing and free as it can be.

How nice you were able to visit your favorite yarn shop and buy such beautiful yarns. It's sad when our favorite stores close. Our local mall closed The Disney Store and my favorite shoe store, Naturalizer. I'm disappointed sometimes when Michael's is out of the colors I want for my crochet projects. I'm going to try ordering yarn on line one of these days. I don't mind a gentle rain with no thunder or lightening but T-storms scare me. Luckily we don't have the tornadoes in SE PA like the Midwest does. Have a lovely weekend!

I'm so glad that you are feeling better and things are looking up, dear Meredith, and I'm very happy for you that you got back to the yarn store for some goodies. Such lovely yarns but, do you know, all my life I thought that 'mauve' was a paler version of purple - surely they must have made a mistake ………
Enjoy your chocolate and herbal tea and I know those long walks will really have you feeling great in no time - I always feel so lifted after a good walk and feel like my body is saying a big 'thank you' …. not to mention my head - the psychological effect is wonderful!!!
Happy Sunday to you and yours,
Hugs, Joy xo

I'm so glad you're having a nice day for yourself, Meredith. The trip to the yarn store sounds like just the right thing. Great therapy. I can just feel your love for yarn and textiles coming through your blog. Perhaps, one day, you should have your own yarn store;)

The yarns are gorgeous! I know I have a scarf from Claudia in some bamboo yarn and it is so soft. A nap is such a good thing when a headache threatens! Big hugs

Such a wonderful post Meredith. How sad that your yarn store is closing but you did get some great bargains. We have a store here that I used to frequent but the owner sold it when she retired. The new owner is very obviously in it just for the $$$ and not the love of yarn or crafting. I have found a different yarn store to frequent too. Very sad.
I think chocolate and tea can cure just about any ailments that may arise and I'm glad things are looking more cheerful for you my friend,

You can let off steam anytime!! We all need to occasionally. Your new yarny purchases are lovely, you will have lots of fun making things, and I am sure that Buddys therapists will love yarny Christmas presents! I hate being talked at when I am choosing yarn, and I find that I always am, so I know what you mean about nice people in shops! xx

I'm so glad you are feeling a bit more rested, Meredith. You were so smart to realize you needed to take it easy this weekend. I must confess to being very jealous of your sheep mug. Where did you buy it?

Looks like you scored some very nice yarn. I'm working with Cascade Heritage right now and I absolutely LOVE it. It slides so nicely along the needles.

Shhhhhhhhh...I'm making secret socks for Steve for his 30th anniversary at Lockheed. I need to have them done by 8/5/14. I THINK I can make it.

I would give the other shop a try once in awhile. She does sometimes have some nice things. And sometimes you just have to touch the yarn before you buy. LOL

But, I TOTALLY get if you can't get over her --- there is a shop here in Altamonte Springs that I absolutely can't step foot in. I got blasted on Ravelry by one of her "customers" --- that actually is rumoured to be her husband. He didn't like one of my opinions of her shop --- all I said was "I wish she would take credit cards".

So --- I just can't. I understand if you "just can't" too. LOL

Meredith- your newest yarns are a beautiful addition to your yarn stash-- that's an awesome photo of your stash!!

I can't believe you have energy left at the end of the day for knitting. Your sweet boy must keep you so busy-- no wonder you are so tired. You can whine to us anytime-- we are here for you!!

The storm cloud photo is truly beautiful!! I love storm clouds too (but not the storms!!)

Love

Hello lovely Meredith. I am so sorry that you have been feeling out of sorts of late, but it sounds like you are feeling a little perkier. I know that gorgeous yarn would've definitely perked me up no end, love the first two, the colours are beautiful!! It seems that you have one mighty impressive stash going on there, just a bit jealous! I am sure the walking will be giving you a little time to think and also just to be, it is so very good for the soul! I am sending you much love and want to apologise for visiting every now and then, that is just my life right now and it works, so I am sticking with it. You are always in my thoughts though!! Take care of yourself! xoxo

Buying yarn always makes me happy! Tea and chocolate are pretty good too! Glad you are feeling better, you have a heavy load , good to kick back rest, laugh and do some fun things. Simple pleasures are the best. Love your yarn and amazingly enough I have knit with two of them he he. The baby bamboo is super nice and has an amazing drape and a great sheen. Scarves knit in that will be beautiful. The Ella Rae is one of my faves. The yarn has so much sproing in it, when you stretch it a bit it snaps back into shape, great stitch definition. Your colour is very pretty. I love the colour of the Cascade Sock, it's one of my favs! I know what you mean about the yarn shop, facing that one too. Enjoy your Sunday!

Wonderful skies, I adore dark skies and thunderstorms too. I love the yellow bamboo yarn, I'm a bit obsessed with the idea of a yellow scarf at the moment. The mauve merino looks delicious as well. I've found some merino I can wear, not sure if it's just that make (Madeline Tosh), I need to experiment a bit. I hope you have a good week, and that you managed to avoid a headache. World Cup is on here too. 0-0 as we speak. CJ xx

I'm so gla you managed to get back to the yarn store and top up your stash Meredith, that yarn looks yummy I love it all, I wouldn't call the Ella Rae lace mauve at least it's not my idea of mauve anyway, it's more raspberry milk shake to me. I love your pictures of the impending storm just lovely. I'm glad that you managed to get a bit of rest and that you're feeling a little better, you take care! :) xx

It's always sad when a favourite store closes. I heard earlier this week that one my favourite away yarn stores is closing...I always enjoyed visiting it when I was there and will miss it.

Nice additions to your stash!

Ahh! It is one of those days here. But I do have peace after praying! :) I adore your yarn wardrobe! :) and if you could...please send some rain my way, it would be a great day for a thunder storm. :) I hope you have a fantastic day. All day long!

I've learned to appreciate a well timed nap. Sounds like things are getting refreshed, and Mere, you are anything but a whiner. If I "whined" like you, my whole family would love me more. ha!

You got some great stuff for the stash. I am drooling over the purple hyacinth sock yarn. I feel the same way about my stash, and mine too has um grown a little unruly this year.

I'll knit from the stash for the rest of the year. I swears it!

Ohhhhh your home yarn store [stash] is pretty inspiring, Meredith! I 'm glad you have had some time to walk and drink tea and eat chocolate and enjoy the rain, too. On my way home from church yesterday I saw a bolt of lightening near Mt. Hood, then we had some gentle showers and when I got home there was a boom of thunder that gave our house a satisfying shake! xx
