Beautiful Wisconsin................

I have lived in Wisconsin twice for very brief periods of time.  I really do love the state.  The farmland rolling by as you drive, the wonderful, vibrant cities, and the charming smaller towns.  Although the politics of the state leave me a bit sick to my stomach (not unlike my own state), the people and the beauty of the state make up for all of that.  I miss living there, I really do, so visiting it is really fun for me.  We drove close to Oconomowoc, near where we used to live.  We stayed up in Door, Co. where my SIL's have a beautiful home right on the shores of Lake Michigan, just south of the town of Egg Harbor.

Can you imagine seeing this view everyday from your back deck?

Or this view from down by the water?

We visited The Ridges Sanctuary where this upper lighthouse lines up with a smaller one and used to guide ships into port safely.  The trees and the flowers were magnificent.  My SIL's volunteer here every week keeping the precious grounds protected.  They have recently been involved in trying to reestablish different lilies back into this protected area.

This amazing yarn bombing is courtesy of a husband and wife team.  If I remember the article correctly, the lovely woman owner of this property started the project, and then her husband joined in and finished it.

We went for a walk in a gorgeous outdoor gallery with paths that lead through the woods with sculptures everywhere.  The sculptures were so interesting.   People are so incredibly talented it just amazes me.

Little Buddy needed a little rest with his aunt's after  all of his walking around looking at art, by the way these comfy rocking chairs were for sale just in case you are interested.

Most of the time was spent reading, knitting and playing with this special little guy of mine.  I actually realized I don't see him near as much as I would like to due to work.  It was fun to just be with him and hear him chatting away about airplanes, vans and trains.

There was even time for a few smooches.  He is very smoochable after all.

There were long walks in the woods and on this great road near my SIL's house.  Well we were walking but Little Buddy was running walker style.

We were treated to some beautiful sunsets, gorgeous temperatures and even an evening thunderstorm.  It was perfect and makes me miss Wisconsin all over again.

Bye for now Wisconsin, thank you for the wonderful trip.

It's so nice to hear good things about my state. Door County really is beautiful, isn't it? It's on our list of places to possibly retire. It is very quiet most of the year, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. We'll be going up ourselves the first week in August. I know exactly which gallery you took a walk at, and it is one of our favorite places to visit.

Don't forget, there is always a welcome mat out for you in Madison!

And, yes, LB is very smoochable! (Love that word.)

That view is absolutely stunning. I could get used to that for sure. A cup of tea. My knitting or crochet and a comfy chair and I would be happy all summer! I'm so very happy that you all had a wonderful time. There are never enough minutes in the day to spend with our little ones is there? Happy days of summer Mere.
Blessings always,
Betsy

I have always wanted to live on Lake Michigan. Wish I could afford to. I never tire of looking at it. It is beautiful no matter which side of the lake you are on. I absolutely loved the pictures of you with Little Buddy...you radiate love in them.

Lovely photos of Wisconsin. Never been there but I'm sure it is beautiful. When we were in PA years ago I found a lovely rocker I wanted to buy but hubby said no. Even if it was Amish made. I fell in love with it and it could have been shipped. Oh well! Little Buddy is so adorable and glad he had a good time with family and you, his sweet mama! How fun. A smooch and a hug from me to you both!!!! Take care!

What a lovely place! And that view is something else! So glad to see you had a nice break. I love all your family pics. i would love a couple of those rockers , that photo is so cute! Such lovely photos of you and your little boy together. Now I'll go haul out my old atlas to check out Wisconsin, my geographical knowledge of that part of your country is so so. Now what would that area be called, it wouldn't be the Midwest , Great Lakes area?? It sure looks nice !

Wisconsin is indeed lovely! Especially by the lake! You all look like you had a wonderful time. I kept going back to that first photo in your post and dreaming of what it would be like to wake up to that view every morning! Lucky indeed are your SIL's. By the way, are your SIL's twins? Sure do look alike!

I hope you enjoyed your family reunion-ish and your trip! Gosh, I haven't been to Wisconsin or the Mid-West for ages! Since grad school actually, wow, that is a long time ago, lol!

Little Buddy looked like the thoroughly enjoyed himself! :D

Hugs for now,

So glad you enjoyed your trip back to our beautiful state ~~ minus the horrific politics ~ ugh. My Aunt & Uncle lived in Sturgeon Bay with a beautiful home right off the bay, and those photos reminded me of their view every day also. Door County is a beautiful area. But, so is the Madison area!! Hope you have had a chance to visit our little corner of the state sometime as well!!
Little Buddy must have loved it. The weather the week you were here was spectacular. Not so much right now as we are to get into the low 90's w/ heat indexes into the low 100's..... that would have been too much like Florida, so it was wonderful to experience some varied weather.
Congrats on the wedding. A truly amazing and wonderful testament to the times.... they are a-changing!

Well now you have me falling in love with Wisconsin, too, Meredith :) I have thought that if I could not live near an ocean I would like to live near one of the Great Lakes, and this post confirms it! I'm so glad you had a good visit with your family...the photos of LB rocking with his aunties, and the one with just you and him are especially precious to me. Wishing you a restful weekend...if possible :) xx
