Bits and Bobs Baby Blanket...............

Sorry I have not been visiting lately I have a severe case of granny square-itis.  I cannot stop making these squares.  Actually 25 were made in just 3 days.  I am in love with this blanket so far.  It reminds me of a quilt made with extra bits of fabric.  I am obsessed.  I talk to Little Buddy while making a square.  I watch TV or read the paper while making a square.  I even made a square while Little B was in the tub last night.

My original thought was to have a gray background.  When I looked at the Berroco Modern Cotton, bought for this purpose, it just was not right.  The yarn is twisted a different way.  My old, old Berroco Pure Pima has a distinct shape, it is crisp, not puffy.  I have almost run out of my old Berroco stash and the blanket is far from being done.  Of course I have had these bits of yarn forever so there is no way to track down more of this discontinued yarn.  I did my internet search this morning.  I used these bits and bobs to make this flower shawl, way back in 2011.

After some research I think my best bet as a substitute is Plymouth Yarn, Cleo.  It  is a nice yarn that will make a great background.  I ordered the color that looks like sand.  With the warmer tones of the orange and yellow I have to go in this direction, gray just won't cut it.  I am completely impatient for the new yarn to arrive.  I want this blanket done right this second.

Someone is back to his old self again.  There are a few coughs here and there, but he is on the mend.  He is supporting his Badger aunts and cousins by wearing this shirt today,  The badgers beat #1 ranked Villanova yesterday.  March Madness continues full force in my house.

March Madness is on here in full tilt too. The Mister keeps scaring the beejeezus out of the dogs with all the yelling. My brackets are pretty much bust, too.
Love, love, love those squares. There is nothing more homey and comforting than a granny square blankie.
Happy to hear the little fellow is on the mend. One less thing to worry about!

The baby blanket is shaping up fast and the colors are nice. As always, I'm impatient when I order something as well. It almost feels like Christmas, right? I'm cutting out my quilt blocks this afternoon. Just the beginning but I must start somewhere! I'm glad Buddy is feeling better. I'll feel better once I get caught up with sleep...crazy time change! Have a good week!

It's lovely when a project grabs you isn't it. Shame you couldn't find the yarn you wanted, but no doubt the substitute will be good too. Gorgeous photo of your sweet little man, how big he's getting. So glad he's almost back to normal. Wishing you and yours a good week Meredith. CJ xx

blanket making is soooo addictive.Great to see Little Buddy looking so happy.

Wow, that was quick! The squares look great and I can understand your impatience. It is so frustrating when a project comes together quickly and then you are thwarted with a yarn shortage. I'm sure it will be beautiful when completed with the substitute yarn. So good to hear Little B is much better now.

Go Badgers!
Actually, I had no idea they were playing at this point in the season. Not much of a team sports fan.
So glad LB is doing better. Even after 5 days on an antibiotic, I'm not much better.
Your blanket is going to be darling. You could look on Ravelry to see if anyone is willing to sell some of the old yarn that they've had forever.

That Little B just gets cuter and cuter. I can't believe how much he has grown since we met him! You tell him I said --- he's adorable. He'll be SO embarrassed!!! LOL

I know what you mean about waiting for yarn. My LYS is closing at the end of the month so I went to get the rest of the yarn for my blanket. She didn't have all the colors. I'll have to buy off the internet.....that means I have to WAIT!!! I DON'T WANT TO WAIT!!!!! rofl

I am loving your granny squares Meredith. They're beautiful! Hubby and I have both had colds this week. Mine started out late last week and then I was generous and shared the cold with him toward the middle of the week. I'm much better, but now he's at the coughing stage. I think I picked it up at physical therapy. Fun times! March madness is here too! Unfortunately our Gonzaga girls lost yesterday, but the boys are progressing onwards and upwards. Yippee! Have a lovely week.
Blessings, Betsy

I know that disease, I often suffer from granny square-itis. Luckily you don't feel very bad from it :-)
Glad to see Little B with that smile again.
Ps: Can't wait to see more of your blanket!
Take care, Sigrid

You've made short work of those squares, they do become addictive, don't they? Glad to hear that Little Buddy is on the mend, I hope that cough disappears altogether soon.

Oh, bother. I was so hoping your bits 'n bobs blankie would be a Knitting Project. I need to use up a bunch of oddments myself, and was looking to "Cheat Off Your Paper", as my students used to say.

So glad the little guy is back to himself. The worst thing ever is when children are sick, and we have to watch them Go Through It.

Oh I think the blanket will be amazingly pretty and cheery!

Even though my March Madness brackets were busted on Day 1, most of the teams I chose are doing pretty well. That doesn't seem to make sense, does it. Oh well.

I do love granny squares so quick and easy. The blanket is going to be lovely. Glad Little B is better. Perhaps that's why he had so much energy at school that his little walker just couldn't behave. :)

Hi Meredith,
Was your original plan to have grey borders around your grannies influenced by your photograph here of a stack of colourful grannies on the grey pavers? That photo helps to picture the combination but I know what it's like when the first ideas don't end up quite as expected. I'm glad you have come to a happier decision with the warmer sandy colour. It will look especially great against the blues.

Hooray for a happier and healthy LB. Change of season is always a vulnerable time for illnesses. Let's hope that his lot for this season. End of story.
Tell me more about Badgers and Villanova. I assume it is a sport? Fantastic for your team to beat the top rank.

March is almost over. Will that be an end to the madness for you? In South Australia Feb-March is Festival season and with so much going on all at once in our city of Adelaide, everyone calls it "Mad March". The festival finished this week and now it is time to pack up until next festival time. I don't have a slogan for April but then, I don't know what April will have in store besides Easter and school holidays. Do you have any ideas?

Cheers to you!
