All work and no play, and Mother's Day...........

I have been working a lot.  I mean a lot, as when I am home I have been writing many progress notes and such.  There has been no time yet again to visit you.  As much as I would like to that is just the way it is right now.   So bear with me a while longer as I get things in order for work, at home and well in life.  As I work on my computer I have these two visiting me in my office.  They jump up on my table and lay there while I type away.

Of course I have visitors of the human kind as well.  No wonder I don't get much accomplished!

Last Sunday I got a last minute invite to my friend Georgette's house.  Her friend, Mr. Mike of elevator fame was there for a visit.  He brought so many wonderful elevator related items for Little Buddy, I have to say I was just so touched.  A hat, cell phone bits and bobs, a real Danger Elevator Closed sign, a work-persons vest, a rules and regulation book for elevators, a wheel that holds an elevator cable, and these amazing elevator buttons.  The bottom one is for Parking Level one and the big one can be plugged in and it shows different types of elevator buttons.  These light up and well you can only imagine how happy my little elevator man was.  We are going to hang this up and when he wants to play elevator he will be working on standing balance, no crutches or walker allowed.  See, I am always making things therapeutic if I can.  Mr. Mike was as delighted as Little Buddy if that is even possible.  How fun to have a little one so interested in what you do.  It is so nice to see how wonderful people can be out in this mad crazy world.

As soon as we got home Little B wrote a thank you note to Mr Mike.  I am guessing Little Buddy is the larger person in this drawing.  I hope Mr Mike understands what an incredibly special thing he did for this little boy of mine.

Mr 21 blew into town with his girlfriend on Monday just in time to become Mr. 22.  We had a birthday dinner out with him to celebrate on Tuesday evening.  We celebrated both of their birthdays as she will be 21 in the beginning of June.  These two have been together since they were 14 and 15.  They still adore each other and are so wonderfully supportive of each other.

Mother's Day is quickly approaching.  This envelope came home in Little Buddy's backpack yesterday.  And as it says I will not open it until Sunday!  That face is a little scary, no?  Although he does have a smile.

This lovely flower came home with Little Buddy when he went to physical therapy this week.  Isn't it cute?

Actually it is so cute I thought Little Buddy could wish you all a Happy Mother's Day with it.  Our gift to you for being the wonderful, caring and supportive women you are to us and to all those around you.  You know I feel funny about Mother's Day.  I much prefer Women's Day, because as women we have to collectively support so many around us, it has nothing to do with being a mother, it has everything to do with being a woman.  So here is to you!  Thank you for all you do to make your families, friends and community a better place.  And that includes this space right here.  You are the best!

Arh that's so cool that Little Buddy got some elevator props. It'll definitely feed his curiosity in learning more and very cleverly motivate him with his standing exercises. Happy Mother's Day / Women's Day to you Meredith. Lovely to catch up with your news, take care. Cathy x

Awwww......those notes. I miss the days of getting some gosh awful thing the kids made at school for Mother's Day. When I was redoing my bedroom I found a box of them stashed away in the top of the closet. It gave me the ugly cries. They grow up so fast.
Happy Mother's Day!
How lucky you are to have so many beautiful boys to spend the day with.

Isn't it fascinating what areas of interest kids get into? My 8-year-old g'daughter likes rocks and gems, and cake decorating, wants me to go on "Nailed It!". I took her to Joann and when we hit the aisle with all the decorating tips, she exclaimed, "It's a dream come true!" I like the idea for Women's Day - so true! (If I had any elevator stuff, I would send it right to LB!)

Dear Meredith, Happy Mothers Day or whatever you call it! It is Sunday morning here in Oz, so I am going out to celebrate soon. What an interesting world with our different interests and skills. It is lovely to see little Buddy's passion for lifts. My father in law drove a lift (elevator) in NZ after he retired and it gave him an interest in meeting people 50 years ago, although lift driving is no longer a job nowadays. Love the attention you get from the "boys" as you work. I have had similar attention from various cats whilst I prepared lessons. I had one cat who used to sit on my books whilst I was studying, so that she had my undivided attention. Regards, Robyn

Thanks for letting us see the wonderful elevator-related gifts your youngest received. You are very clever to incorporate physical therapy activities into their use! I learned to make one type of tissue paper rose shaped flower when I was in high school fifty years ago...and made so many I think I can still remember how to make more. So glad you had a good time celebrating your loved one's birthdays! It is always fun to see your furry friends as well. Thanks for making time to post, Meredith. I hope you have a special celebration on May 12th! xxxxxxx

That was so sweet of Mr. Mike. He sounds like a great guy to have around and to take such an interest in a young boys dreams, well it gives me hope for humanity.
And what Araignee (aka Debra) said about the notes. I agree with her wholeheartedly. I found some not too long and cried long and hard. I miss notes, although Miss Piper is beginning to send me the sweetest ones. I recieved two drawings of hers in the mail yesterday for Mother's Day. They mean more than gold to me.
And I love the story of Mr. 22 and his girlfriend. They have withstood the test of time. High school and college, some of the toughest times out there for young people. I have been with Dennis since I was 15! Engaged at 16 and married at 18. Almost 41 years later and still blissfully in love.
Happy Mother's Day sweet Meredith! Thanks for sharing your family and fur babies with us all.
Blessings,
Betsy

What lovely, thoughtful gifts for your little elevator man. I must tell you about the elevator in the Children's Hospital in Bristol. It has the voices of Wallace from Wallace & Gromit (animated film characters created by a Bristol man) programmed into it. The different floors are different colours, and they say things like 'Orange Floor. Give you oranges do they?' and 'Mind your paws lad' as the doors close. Happy Birthday to Mr 22, and I hope you have a lovely Sunday. It's not a special day of any description here, but the sun is shining and there is cricket to be played. CJ xx

There are such kind people around and they make the world of difference to other people's lives, Little Buddy must be thrilled to bits will all his elevator gifts. Happy birthday to Mr 22, how lovely that you were able to celebrate with him. Thank you for the lovely comment on my blog, I know how Mother's Day can be bittersweet for all sorts of reasons. We celebrate earlier than you do and it was only three days before our Mother's Day that my mum died so it was particularly hard this year and I know as well as being spoilt by your lovely family you'll be thinking of your dear mom, so remember all those happy times and make it a lovely day xx

Mr. Mike sounds like a very kind man. I hope the evil smile (adorable, but looks evil!) on your Do Not Open envelope doesn't reflect what's inside the envelope. :) I absolutely love the cute/funny little notes kids write. Happy Mother's/Women's Day!

you are the mother of gorgeous boys! in all sizes! some with fur some not!
happy mother's and women's day to you too darling Mere.
and can't forget your handsome husband! it's a team effort and you're a TEAM!
I was also fascinated by elevators as a child. I played elevator operator! LOL
"down please. going down." "ladies fine lingerie on the first floor. watch your step!" I used a very grown up modulated voice as I recall. LOL! and of course the elevator was make believe.
I love the picture of Little Buddy with his flower. and look at that beautiful dark coloring he has. so striking! and of course that's what he makes when he does the self portrait! dark hair and eyes! it makes perfect sense!
ok. writing a book here I see. I'm sorry! "step out please!" XOXOXO

Happy Mother's Day to you Meredith. You shine as an amazing woman and mother. Lil B and the older men in your family are so very lucky to have you. I love all the elevator efforts! I thought of LIL b when we were in Milwaukee at the musical COME FROM AWAY. We had to take a huge elevator to the balcony area.

This year MOm's day is easier on so many levels. AL is happy with Will. Zach is unhappy but nearby, and my sister and I are planning to chat about our funny mom at 3 pm today.

Love you lots!

Mother's day is for all being who care about others: mothers, women, men. I don't expect much on mother's day. In other words, every day is a mother's day.
Right now I am pleased that my chores as a mother aren't as demanding as they used to be. I like to be a grandmother. It's like being a mother but without the huge responsibility. Just the happy parts so far.

I wish you all the best, some relaxing moments during the next week. Life is a marathon, isn't it? We all need a boost now and then. I guess mother's day is one. Hugs, Regula

Happy Mother's Day Mere! Cute dogs and boys and family fun!!! We get to celebrate our 2 granddaughters birthdays in a couple weeks together! Both is May, at the beginning and end of month!! Interesting how LB likes elevators and people give him little gifts for him to have fun with. I remember years ago when there were elevator operators in hotels and other places. Now we operate them ourselves!!! Hope things slow down for you a bit and give yourself some time to breathe and relax each day! Life gets crazy busy and sometimes I get caught up in it as well! Hugs and blessings and God bless your week!!!xx==xx

What a wonderful, newsy catch-up post! That photo of your dogs lying on your table is so funny. Is that a massage table? Do you get or give massages frequently? (Was wondering why you had one in your home.) How wonderful that Mr. Mike surprised Little Buddy with all those elevator things. I'm sure he's thrilled! And happy birthday to Mr. Now-22. :-)

What an uplifting post, the kindness of some people is a joy, those elevator gifts making such a difference. Love those little notes and the gorgeous flower they mean so much more than expensive gifts. Wishing you some time for yourself this week. Take care.

Such a sweet post! The elevator man is truly touching. All his little gifts to LB are incredibly thoughtful. And I love how you are using them therapeutically.
I am quite envious of your family dinner. I did get phone calls from my kids for Mother's Day, but they are in Miami still -- too far to go out for dinner.
What was in LB's "do not open" treat? That is a bit of a scary drawing. Did he ever say who he was drawing?

That little boy of yours never fails to make me smile. His notes are just too precious...and he's quite good with his penmanship!! I know you will save these forever. And how great to get together as a family. See, Mother's Day wasn't so bad, spread out and too much work, but love all around anyway. And those pups...

Sending hugs, mama!

Your dogs are so comical. Seeing their photos always makes me laugh. How sweet that Buddy received all of those elevator extras. He must be thrilled. I love the card that he made you, with all of the black. Your blog is so humorous and fun to read.

After a terrifyingly busy, hectic, exhausting week, it is such a pleasure to catch up with you. As soon as the photo of LB with the elevator button panel scrolled onto my screen, I giggled. So funny and gorgeous! How generous of Mr Mike. I like how you will use the elevator gear as a motivational tool. Sneaky!

Wonderful that you had your son home to celebrate his birthday (and that of his girlfriend). It's a great age 21/22 - the same ages as a couple around my place. I wish I was that age again and knew what I know now but on the other hand, perhaps I wouldn't be as care free as I was then.

We also celebrated mother's day here but I don't put a lot of stock into it - if one cannot appreciate one's parents every day of the year, then what's the point, apart from a tokenistic commercial exercise? Oooh! There's the cynic in me coming out.

I much prefer Women's Day also. For the most recent International Women's Day, Adelaide hosted the biggest IWD breakfast in the country with very prominent keynote speakers and it gained national attention in the media. Meanwhile women here are outraged at the rulings in Alabama that deny women rights over their own bodies.

Oh well, I will stem my rage by relaxing with LB's wonderful drawings and handwriting. Great work! Have a happy week and I wish you all the best getting your work done in spite of all the willing 'helpers'! :-)
