Thoughts on a gray day.................

Someone is not feeling tip top today.  See the red under that cute freckled nose?  Well it is even worse now from all the tissue rubbing that has occurred today.   My little one has a cold, unfortunately caught from me.  Yes my friends we are sniffing and coughing together.  This is my fifth or sixth cold since Christmas. Can I tell you how much I am over it?  Little Buddy has been in his pj's all day and has watched a marathon of Paw Patrol and Cars movies.  And frankly if he is happy doing that he must not be feeling well.

The skies are gray and we have had a wonderfully rainy day.  Just the kind you want to have when you are not feeling the greatest.  May was the hottest month on record in Florida, many days at 95 and 96 degrees.  I have never seen that in the 30 plus years I have lived here.  We have not gotten any rain for a month so today's rain is very welcome.  The weather is crazy everywhere.  Yet there is no climate change, right? Today is World Ocean Day.  Just read a few articles about the dying coral reefs, all the plastic and trash in the ocean and of course the melting of all the icebergs and you will be as sad as me.

Work continues on the Ete Cardigan from We Are Knitters.  I have been slow with this project because most nights this week I plopped into bed after work to rest.   These colds are ridiculous in how they zap your energy.  I wasn't sick enough to cancel patients, well I always cancel my heart transplant kids when I even have a sniffle, but the rest of the week was packed full.

I am in awe every time I start a project.  Just one stitch or chain leads to a finished fabric that can be so many things.  The possibilities are endless.   I think that is why we all have a bit of startitis, it is the start of creating something that is so enticing.

Hank and Bear are constantly at my side when I am home.  They are calming down just a tiny bit as they are now 1 1/2.  They still have incredible energy, they roughhouse and play like they are fighting and run wild inside and out.  They are so much fun.  Hank's job is to take care of everyone, and Bear, well he will always be the baby and try to get away with more than his brother even though they are exactly the same age. I can't even comment on Blogs without some help from my darling Hank.

My heart is heavy on this gray day.  Reading blogs where friends have lost beloved pets and a lovely blogging friend losing her life to cancer at the end of May has left me feeling sad.  You know this strange blog world we live in gets under your skin.  You start to care about people and cheer them on even though you have not met before.   I always grieve a bit when a blog I have read for years closes shop because there is nothing left to say, but they say loads on other platforms.  Or when they just stop blogging and months go by before you realize they are not there anymore.  You wonder if all is well with this person and with their family even though you have only read about them.  It is so strange to care about people out there you will never meet in person but I do.  I really do, and I know you all do, too.

When this little one heard that my voice was different on Tuesday morning due to my cold he asked me why my voice was always so scratchy.  He then told me he does not like scratchy voices and maybe he needs a new mom!  Any takers out there?  Free shipping and includes green dinosaur pajamas and a steering wheel which is a necessity when watching the movie Cars 3.

Dear Meredith, yes, I do feel like I know you and that you are a friend, after reading your blog for so long. I have noticed that many blogs I have read in the past are no longer writng entries, after their blog entries become further apart until suddenly you realise that they are no longer blogging. Sad, but still their choice. Using Instagram or Facebook seems to be so different to the reader of blogs.
I hate colds and recently my husband and I have started to treat sore throat colds with a gargle. It is called Betadine throat gargle. We have been able to purchase it here in Australia for a number of years. It really kills infectious germs in your throat. I gargle with it a couple of times a day and it really suppresses sore throats. Even though I know I have a cold now, I don't feel like I have one during the day. You can also purchase Betadine lozenges too which I think are better than any other ones I have tried. I do hope your colds go very soon.
Regards, Robyn

Throw in the rocking chair and you've got a deal ...................if you take one very sheddy cat. ;-)

I know you wouldn't part with that boy. He is your HEART!!!

Meredith, I'm so sorry that you are both so sick. It has indeed been a strange month weatherwise here too. It has been raining for several days now, but dry weather is promised tomorrow...and warmer too. Thank goodness. It was 39F this morning here at the lake. In June! That's crazy.
I know what you mean about the crazy blogging world we live in. I've been cheering on a u-tuber that I have watched for several years as she battled breast cancer, won and then was diagnosed again with cancer in another place. Just this morning I heard that she has died this week. But she just posted a video last weekend full of hope and plans for her summer!!!! I've been watching all week for another one. And just like that, my heart is broken for a complete stranger. Because, although I followed her life, she had no idea I even exist. How strange this world of social media is. I am grateful for it though, because that's how I have met so many wonderful people. Including you, my dear Meredith.
Now, I'm sure that your little guy is just out of sorts because he doesn't feel well. I know for a fact that you are the BEST Mom he could ever have. Why you buy him dinosaur jammies and put elevator buttons on the wall for him!
Feel better my friend. Life is too short to be sick. :-)
Blessings and love,
Betsy

I’d take you up on this offer in a flash, but I know Little Buddy didn’t mean it. Feeling crummy makes you sometimes say interesting things. :-) Hope you are all feeling better very soon. By the way, are Bear and Hank included in the deal???

I care too. There is a connection between blog writer and reader. How strange that someone just cuts it, how impolite. Blogland is not completely different from real world as we share our thoughts and experiences. We should follow the same rules: respect, honesty, manners. I wish you a lovely weekend and good recovery to you and your boy. Hugs, Regula

Reading about all the pet losses this week has left me in a state of sad too. It is odd how people's pain, who we don't even really know, can get to you. The internet is so powerful-and I suppose so scary. I see now it must be treated with respect and understand how it can do so much damage to young minds.

As for climate change, I would like to invite those deniers to see the woods behind my house. My beautiful forest is dying from rot and decay from the wild climate swings we now have. No spring. No fall. Just too cold winters and too hot and humid summers. It takes a toll.

On a happier note, your project is just so pretty. I can't wait to see it finished and your puppers just get cuter every day.

I hope you and your little man feel better soon. Summer colds are the worst.

Take care and feel better, both of you. I have had this awful cold for what seems like years, so I understand how you feel.

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts. It is funny - but also comforting, at least to me - to know that friends you have never met are holding you close during tough times.

I've only just read Mac's post about Janet, I'm so sad, she fought her battle with such dignity. I'll definitely take Little Buddy, though I think if push came to shove he'd have something to say about that. I hope you're both feeling better soon.

Yep, send him straight over, we have all sorts of fun stuff for little chaps to do. Sorry about the colds, it must seem like a neverending stream of them. The weather seems to be all about extremes. So often now we are told that it has been the warmest month on record or the wettest month on record. Not good at all. I hope the temperatures cool down for you soon. I know what you mean about blogging friends, it's always sad when they disappear. I am very happy that you're still here! Your blog is always a treat, and I am always happy to see a post from you popping up. Hope you have a good Sunday and that you are both all better very soon. CJ xx

Thank you for the thoughtfully written piece. In common with others I find reading blogs written by folk who share interests and life experience, both thought provoking and at times comforting. It's true we don't all know each other and we'll probably never meet, but sharing ideas, talents and every day life events widens my world and opens my heart.

Always happy to see you post. I'm one blogger that seems to have drifted away. Life has been crazy and not in a good way and blogging was one more thing I just couldn't do. Still I miss everyone and the interaction so who knows I may blog again soon. Hugs!

I love you and Lil B and you know it!
Blogging brings me peace and joy and community.

We may have had that cold too. I took Forever to have energy again. I am still not quite done being hoarse.
So, Lil B would not like my voice right now either! I could take him on so many elevator adventures.
But IM not sure I'd be very good, You are an amazing mom~! I'd be giving him Potato chips and pop and taking him for way too much ice cream.

Get well soon.

I'm just beginning to catch up on my blog reading. I worked 118 hours over the last 9 days and have barely had time to even turn my computer on. I'm not looking forward to reading about people's losses. I do feel a sincere friendship with many of the bloggers I follow and will be sad to hear about their losses. I also miss them when they drop off the blogosphere.

I'm sorry about your friend Janet. It is sad when bloggers that we are attached to stop writing, or become very sick. Buddy says the funniest things. It's a good thing you don't take them personally.

I see there are already many takers for this sweet little boy but can I please add my name to the waiting list? I have a cold, too. Such a bother, I really don't like it. Hope yours is on its way out.
I was really sad to read about the death of a blog friend we share just the other day. You are right, we are a tight knit group really and I do feel that I am privileged to connect to women (and a few men) all around the world, all of whom I might not otherwise have met. Lots of love xx

I feel like the blog world is my friend world so I know how you feel. A lot of my 'friends' have moved to IG but it takes up more of my time to be there (weird!) Sorry you are passing this virus back and forth. Use hand sanitizer (which I assume you do) and maybe add a 500 mg supplement of vitamin c (by emergence C) it is buffered so you do not burp vitamin C for 12 hours-- trust me. This is for you of course not the little one.

hope you feel better and I'm glad I know you :)

Sorry to read you're still having colds at your house. Phil's still dealing with his after having one in April. I think allergies are hitting people right now. I've been on my recliner 3 hours, slept 1.5 hours, installed Instagram and .....yeah better get up and get a few things done.I keep asking up early then eventually go back to sleep. I still like to blog but sometimes am too busy. Praying you feel better soon. Hugs!

I'm so sorry to hear you both are ill. I really can't believe they haven't found a cure for the common cold.. I detest how ill they make us feel. Your crocheted wrap is looking magnificent. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Your fur boys are something.. I'd love to see them gamboling about.

I really agree with you on how good of friends you can make via one's blog. I feel like you are just as close of a friend of mine as anyone else and in some ways more as I know you're just a text away. :-)

I'm sorry your little guy said that, but I truly believe he did not mean it at all. Next time you'll just have to say.. okay, if you want a new mom I guess I'll pack my bags and go on vacation. :-)

((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I'm sorry you're all full of cold Meredith. As you've had so many colds recently maybe you need a tonic such as seven seas - for the tired run down and frequently unwell, vitamin c to help fight cold virus (prob not at the same time as the tonic) & a GP recommended Corsodyl mouth rinse (mint) as it fights lots of oral germs. Tastes disgusting but brilliant. Maybe google the corsodyl to check the active ingredient as it may be a different brand in the US.
Still newish to blogging, I've seen many blogs that have stopped which is a shame. I belong to a fb cat group and find it incredibly sad when a beloved cat died.
I enjoy reading your blog, take care, Cathy x

Sometimes children just test us, other times they simply speak what's right on their minds since they haven't yet developed That Filter. He's already forgotten what he said, I'm sure. It meant far more to you than it did to him in the moment.

Colds are THE WORST. Why ever do we still get them? By now they should have gone the way of dial telephones and butter churns.

I have just read your wonderful post (as always) and all the comments... as I always do. you and this community I find that I treasure now.
I have never crocheted or knitted in my life. but my little mother was never without her needles and I think I find it comforting to even be a silent part of it here. women who create such useful BEAUTY are special in my mind.
it's funny. but I have always liked the way my voice sounds when I have a cold!
mind you it's the ONLY thing I like. I think that adorable little guy of yours just meant you didn't sound like 'HIS' MOM! lol. and Hank staying right by your side... letting you know how important you are to him... there is always so much to love and enjoy in your posts.
wishing you and your little one are both WELL very very very SOON! XO

Sorry for the cold-they are a misery even when we say, "It's JUST a cold..."
I feel the same way when blog cease--we get used to the chat every few days and really do get involved with others. I think we are so busy, it is hard to connect with others nearby who share our interests that blogging really fills a need-well, at least for me it does! I hope you feel better soon!

Oh my goodness, that last paragraph had me laughing out loud. That Little B is a hoot! Sorry to hear you have yet another cold. No fun at all. A gray, rainy day is the perfect time to just kick back and relax. The temperature here today was 118 F. Ugh! There will be no rain in sight at least until maybe October or so. Never really know. I've been blogging for just about 10 years now and even though I've only been able to actually meet a few blog friends in person, I still feel a connection to everyone who still visits and comments after all these years. So many jumped over to Instagram and never looked back which is a shame. They are completely different modes of sharing and one is not better than the other as far as I am concerned. IG is easier but blogging is more personal. It is always very sad when a blog friend disappears and you only find out through someone else that they passed away. Sometimes they are just gone and you never know why. Life is every changing and everything changes with time. Hope you and Z are feeling much better very soon. Take care, Tammy

I am so sorry to hear you and LB have colds again. I can't believe you've had so many this year already, but I guess that's what happens when you work with little kids. I haven't had a cold in 2-1/2 years! But I'm rarely around little kids. I hope you are getting enough rest, drinking lots of water and tea, and taking supplements that help boost the immune system.

Little Buddy absolutely cracks me up with the things he says!

The weather here (northern IL) is crazy, too. Nothing but rain since April. All the farmer's fields are flooded and the river is overflowing its banks. It's also been cooler than normal, but that part is fine with me. I'm glad the rain has finally made it down your way.

I know what you mean about blogging/online friends. I really do feel like I know my blogging friends. I even talk about certain blogging friends with my husband! Even he knows these people by name now. ;-)

Get well wishes and hugs sent your way...

So sorry to hear you've been sick! Ick.

I know what you mean about friends in the blogging world. I have such great blogging friends, and I've lost two now--one to cancer and one to a car accident--and I haven't yet been able to make the shawl I was going to make with the first one and haven't finished the one I was doing as a March Madness project with the other because I miss them too much. Friends are precious no matter how we find them.

Hugs, dear friend.

Cranky comment from his misery, no doubt :) I hope you both are feeling much better and the cold syndrome banished! It is heart-wrenching for me when I have discovered the tragedies that ended some blogs because even if I never met the blogger face to face I truly care about them, and for those who change their social media platforms from blogging, I miss their presence in my life. I have been unable to track IG posts consistently and my life beyond blogging is so busy I have a hard time posting once a month and keeping up with the latest posts from the bloggers I love. But I love the creative format of blogging! xxxxxxx

I’m sorry you’ve both been sick, that’s no fun. I know what you mean about blog friends. I’ve had a few over the years that just disappeared. A lot of us are getting to that age where that can always mean bad news.

Sorry for a tardy response - no excuses besides the usual circumstances. I'm sorry too for your loss of a blogfriend. Friends separated by distance (either geographical or via the blogosphere) often don't get so see or hear about everything going on with each other so by the time the news hits the blogosphere it is sudden and shocking.
I am not impressed by people who intentionally stop blogging or choose to move platforms (e.g. blogs to IG) without informing their readers. That's disrespectful to readers who have invested time and energy. The least a blogger can do is show respoct of investing time to explain. I hope to think that I have explanations on my blog regarding changes to the frequency of blog posts.
I agree with Tammy (previous comment above) that so many bloggers have moved to Instagram but it is disappointing. I like the personal nature of blogs where we can get to know each other better. Instagram difficult to read and very hit-or-miss. The blogosphere remains my favourite way to connect with friends, old and new.
May you be feeling better by the time this comment reaches you. It has been a horrible cold and flu season in Australia. The health authorities were too slow to organise the vaccine schedule this year. I argued with my dr to get my vax a few weeks early (against the recommendation he had been given) when I was given a tip-off about absenteeism in a school area where one of my family was teaching and likely to bring it home to my area! Fortunately my GP gave in and so far, so good. Touch wood. Love to you and yours.
