Why is it?

Why is it that one job leads to another?  I started off my morning raking leaves from the oak tree near my house and thought okay this is all I am going to do today.  But that led to washing off my front porch from all the pollen we have, it is thick and green on every surface around. Which led to scrubbing my front walkway where mold was beginning to grow.  Which led to pulling weeds all around my front walkway and front of the house.  Which led to giving my boys a bath.  I know that was a big jump but it really did happen.  Which led to pulling weeds out behind my pool area.  Which led to washing up, vacuuming and washing the floors while the boys were outside drying.  That first job was all I was going to do and I made it in the house and finished four hours later.

Why is it that just after I got rid of all toxic cleaners in my house I found out my refrigerator was leaking and I was getting some black mold and had to use bleach to clear it up.  I got an infestation of flies in my master bathroom which I think are drain flies and had to use a toxic drain cleaner to get rid of them.  We are not in the clear yet but the fly death rate at my house is slowing down.  And of course there is that mold outside on the sidewalk, heavy duty cleaner needed there also.  I am trying to be toxic free but the Universe seems to be having a laugh at my expense.  Ha, you want to detox your home, we will see about that!

Why is it that this wild turkey was walking down the middle of the road on Friday afternoon?  Seriously this is behind my house and I pulled up behind her and she just kept walking right down those yellow lines.  As cars approached I flashed my lights at them and they did slow down but really just kept moving along.  She wasn't even fazed.  I pulled up next to her and she ruffled her feathers a bit.  I honked at her and she just looked irritated.  I tried to get behind her and pull up slowly to move her towards the woods and let me just say she was having none of it.  She just kept walking, I just kept following until she finally walked to the side of the road.  I'd say we were together about 6 minutes, her walking and me following.  She is a beauty isn't she?

Why is it that the month of March finds me consumed with paperwork?  There are six progress notes or re-evaluations due this month for work and I am finding it hard to get them done.  I am working all day on Friday's while Little B is at school to get ahead of all the work.  So far I have two complete, two more almost done with two to go.  I am the kind of person who can't be late handing things in.  It all has to get done on time!

Why is it that this little boy took two whole years to be brave enough to get in his jeep and drive it?  He got this two years ago for Christmas and on his second ride it went a little fast for him and he has not gotten in it again.  Just as I was thinking it was time to give it away he wanted to ride it.  Well my friends that battery in the jeep was dead, dead, dead so I ordered another one and what do you know?  This guy is riding around like a race car driver.  He loves it!  He is a brave boy and finding his way in his own time.  I am pretty proud of him.

Why is it that Hank is so much more beautiful in person than he is in pictures?  I can't understand it.  His eyes are a beautiful caramel color that doesn't get picked up in a photo.  They are almost the exact color of his beautiful nose.  He looks happy here, which he usually is. but boy when my phone comes out to take his picture he usually gets all serious.

Why is it that Bear can't stay clean even before he is sufficiently dry after his bath?  If you look closely you can see he was eating dirt out of one of my plants, it is all over his mouth.  These boys!

Why is it I can't stop making Elise Shawls?  This one is for another dear friend.  It will be a surprise.  I think I am still in love with the pattern all these years later and the yarn I am using is so lovely.  It is a win-win.  It is a project that does not take too much thinking, and it makes a beautiful shawl.

Why is it my son's seem to be having so much more fun than me?  Last weekend Mr 26 was in Jamaica.  It was a well deserved weekend, and he needed the time away, but still it was Jamaica!  And this week Mr 22 and his girlfriend are going on a cruise.  She got a great deal on this trip thorough her work so they jumped at the chance to go.  That means we have Luna, the granddog for the week.  She is so excited to be with the boys, she could care less about her grandmother.  Still she brought me a dried up dead lizard today so there is that!  I sent Mr 22 and his girlfriend with lots of essential oils to combat bacteria and viruses.  Hopefully they will use them.  Am I nervous with all the news about the Coronavirus?  Not really to be honest, they are smart kids and they will keep washing their hands and taking precautions as much as they can.  We all have to continue to live our lives the best we can and not get hysterical.  Be smart, stay in if you are sick, wash your hands, stay away from those people who are ill if you can, eat right and sleep well so you have the best immune system possible.  That is all we can do, oh and don't hoard toilet paper or hand sanitizer, that stuff is really horrible for you anyway.

Why is it weekends go by sooooooooooooo fast?  I feel like I really never get a chance to relax before I have to prepare for the week ahead.  Speaking of work, I better get ready for Monday.  Have a good week my friends.

I tend to get distracted and work my way through areas like this! lol
The dogs are beautiful--it shows in the photos! Hooray for Lil Buddy cuz he is cruising now and there's no going back! Nice work on knocking out another shawl!

I use to ask a lot of 'Why is it' questions but stopped because I never found any good answers...haha. I had fun reading your 'why is it' questions though. Your pictures are great and that jeep for Little Buddy, I want a ride!

i was out in our yard today, too, and sure enough one thing led to another, but I did quit to take a walk with DH. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny also, so I'll be back at it then. So glad to see LB driving the car; I'll bet he doesn't let you give it away now! It's a bit crazy here in WA; church was only online today, and choir will be cancelled again this coming week. Kirkland is just north of us......

Oh Mere. You are 100% normal. You passed the dreaded distraction spring cleaning test! I do the same thing here. Shhhhh, no one needs to know that someone gave me a dog crate to donate to our local shelter. The shelter folk took it out of the truck for me. I stood there as I am want to do, chatting, and almost....ALMOST pulled away with the back truck gate open. It swings open. Oh man. My father must have been there today. I got in the car and some noisy light was going and I hopped out to see why and there was my trunk door ready to be damaged by the crazy winds we had and me almost driving down the country road oblivious.
What S MY excuse?? I don't have pups in the house. I don't have a young son to raise . I don't even work anymore.

Love all your shawls. Love that Lil Buddy is now driving that awesome gift. Love you!

Same thing here with the detoxing. I am always fighting mold in the downstairs closet under the stairs and what kills mold also can kill me. Jeesh.
Your boys are looking good. The big fluffy ones must be a handful. I just bathed and clipped my little tiny Pup today and it wore me out. What a mess.

Your weekend work sounds just like mine. I only meant to pull some weeds and plant one packet of seeds. Haha! It's like "If you give a mouse a cookie" isn't it?

You're a wonder! So many accomplishments on your day of rest. You need some of those strapping males in the famile to step up. I make lists and leave them in conspicuous places for them to see. Have a good week...and way to go, LB!

Awwwwwww...the pictures of your boys are too cute.

Stephen had one of those little jeeps when he was a kid too. I hope Little Buddy enjoys his as much as Stephen enjoyed it.

Take care .............Dee

You sure are a ball of energy! I wish I was like that but I was born to be easy going and the opposite of a ball of fire. LOL! I did two Elise shawls inspired by you. The white and red one. Both using alpaca. Love them. I'm SO glad your little guy decided to have another go at the Jeep and is having fun with it. Good for him.. and I'm glad he changed his mind before you gave it away! I have to admit I was worried about your boy going on a cruise.. I sure do hope it's smooth sailing. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Happens to us all! When I am out walking and see garbage, I pick up a few pieces and say that's all that I am going to do and then I wind up cleaning the whole area. when I'm at home, if I start organizing or cleaning one room or spot, it turns into hours of turning things upside down and usually something gets broken in the process. ha! The Elise shawl is lovely. Nothing wrong with doing something over and over if you enjoy it. I'm the same with granny squares. Satisfying and I don't have to think. :) All kids develop at different rates and while some are rambunctious and ready to go full speed ahead, others need to take their time. Heck, we even do it as adults with certain things. Nothing wrong with waiting til you're ready. Now riding around in that car is even more enjoyable for Little B because he wants to do it. You're fur boys make me smile every time. Hope Mr 22 and his girlfriend have a good cruise. The coronavirus just proves that there are too many people who panic and lose their marbles. Zack was in NYC with friends and they went to 5 places looking for hand sanitizer but it was sold out everywhere. It just blows my mind. Hand sanitizer is not a cure, folks. We need common sense to make a comeback. :) Have a good week.

It sounds like "If you give a mouse a cookie!" One thing always seems to lead to another here too. I don't know how you get as much done as you do. We did take a couple of walks today since it got into the high 40's and felt so warm. We just didn't want to sit inside all day and my cardiologist has advised no groups of more than 10 people. That meant no church so we watched a live stream from Mandy's church in Omaha instead.
Miss Piper has a little car like your little guys. Hers is a police car and she loves it. She has things hanging from the visor and takes her babies for rides all of the time.
I hope you have a good week Meredith. You are such a great Mom to all of your guys.
Blessings,
Betsy

So many questions! Weekends pass so quickly because they are filled with stuff that are fun, or that just need doing. Weekday routines that remain similar over time seem to slow time right down... Another Monday morning here, I am still waiting for the little ones to come down for breakfast. So glad your little one re-discovered his racing car, it looks like he'll grow out of it soon. Have a lovely week, hopefully all the paperwork will be out of your way soon xx

I know what you mean about doing lots of jobs without meaning to. Sometimes I wander down the garden path, pull out a single weed, and before I know it I've been there for two hours doing stuff. I am very envious about Jamaica, somewhere I'd love to go, especially as a good friend lives there now. Wise words among all the hysteria. Apparently everyone is panic buying dry goods here as well as toilet paper. It's utterly ridiculous. Lovely to see Little Buddy in his car, I can imagine how much fun he's having with it. Hope you have a good week, CJ xx

Just been catching up on all my favourite blogs. Agree completely about boosting our immune systems I have just made a really healthy salad for me and hubby and was planning to tell him about the importance of a good immune system. Great minds think alike.

what a fun post, why is it you don't live closer and you can start on my yard? I think both dogs are adorable and yay for Little B being brave enough to get into his jeep!

We've got whole flocks of wild turkeys that have become urbanized and are literally terrorizing residents here in NEO. It's ridiculous; they have no fear of anyone or anything. My niece's whole backyard has been taken over by them and she can't even let her kids out to play.

I get the whole One Thing Leads To Another deal. It happens to me all the time. Pretty soon, I'm exhausted and wishing my husband would come home and stop me!

How great that Buddy is now driving around in his red car, and that you were patient and understanding with him. Recovering from arthritis taught me that I would miss all of those things that seemed like chores. I find it helps just to do a few tasks, and not push myself too hard.

Great post Meredith. I had a similar gardening story on Saturday but told myself to stop at 2pm before my hips started to ache. I have made many an Elise shawl (from seeing it here in fact) It is a brilliant pattern and I have certainly not tired of it yet either. Have a good week. Jo x

Great photo's and I have no answers for you but my dogs go and jump in some mud straight after a bath or one of them likes to find some smell to roll in. I'm glad your little guy is finally using his car. x

I get pretty excited when I expect to only do one job and get a heap of them done. You get on a roll and run with it. I'm like that with sewing up my knitting or stitching buttons on things. I love it when it all gets done because they are jobs I don't like. lol

I love your sense of humour in this format: "Why is it ...?"

Sometimes that's all we can do - look to the heavens and exclaim "WHY???" ;-)

There's a name for what we experience when we say, "I'll just do that little bit more while I'm here ... ". It's called 'scope creep' and it's a thing.

I hope you are not asking me, "Why does that not make me feel better?" because I want you to feel okay. It's okay. It happens! hehehe
