Knitting Slump

Have you ever had a knitting slump? I have had very few in my knitting lifetime. But right now I am in a big one. I usually knit at my son's swim practice or watching TV in the evenings. I knit in car line when I am waiting to pick up my youngest from school. I usually have to have my knitting with me , "Just in case," I have a spare moment. I knit through every season, and every issue that comes up in my life.

But right now I am not that excited about any knitting. I have two projects on the needles. One a lovely tank top that I know is going to be a bit big on me, yet I continue knitting on. I know that sounds crazy and I checked my gauge, but I can't stand to rip it all out. Sometimes knitting is about knitting for me, and not actually the end product. Someone I know will fit into it.

I have a lovely pair of socks started and I am just approaching the first heel. I am not experiencing second sock syndrome, known to most knitters, I am in the middle of first sock syndrome. Is there any medication for that?

I have been working a little extra these last few weeks. We have had more company visiting, but still that isn't an excuse. My kids are wacky as usual and that usually makes me knit.

I think knitting makes up a bit of who I am. I love yarn, yarn stores, yarn blogs, knitting friends and family. I love talking knitting, reading about knitting and smelling yarn fumes. I hope I get back into it soon, as right now I fell a little lost without my drive to knit.

It will come back to you...Your slumps never last long. But I've been in one for a long time. Just started another of the Noro shawls (like the one in your banner) but haven't had a lot of time to do anything. Love you, sister.

I know exactly what you mean! I've had short slumps but this current one has been going on for a couple months now. There are so many things I want to knit but can't get going. To start anything new will require swatching for gauge and spending dedicated time that I don't feel I have right now. And now with the nice weather, I'll want to be outside gardening. I've become more of a process than product knitter too. You are right...anything you make will fit someone...known to you or via a charity. I used to have 4, 5, 6 projects going at once. Now I like the idea of being a serial knitter...work on one thing at a time. Or have one mindless and one thinking project.
Here's hoping we get our knitting mojo back soon!!
