Nervous

This is my oldest son last year at his high school state swim meet.  Today he left for his first college recruiting trip to Ohio State.  If you could all send those coaches some positive thoughts for my son I would appreciate it.  He is a good kid, a hard worker and deserves to be in a good situation especially considering how he has been treated in the past.

It is very bittersweet sending your boy off on a trip without you.  You are so happy for him, but nervous and scared all at the same time.  And it feels really crazy that this could be happening so soon.  Wasn't he just running around in a Halloween costume and playing with trucks?  How could he be getting ready for college already?
Thanks for all your help, I can't wait until Sunday to see how it all went.

My thoughts are with David and I'm sending all those coaches positive thoughts. Dave deserves to be in a good college swimming program. It's his time - do you hear me, karma?

It is hard to see them go off without us, isn't it? Read some of this blog, as she writes a lot about the conundrum of good parenting :

I hope it all goes well and will be sending positive thoughts!!
And I know, it's ridiculous how quickly they grow- you sometimes just want to make time stand still

Oh I can't wait to hear! He's probably a bit nervous too although he won't admit that! :) And yes, I was just changing my kids diapers, how did they grow up and leave the nest so fast? Much less have lives of their own! Sending good juju, love and light!

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed. He looks like my friend Michael there. You know which Michael I'm talking about. All good butterfliers know that Michael. OSU is a great school for swimming. I can smell the weekend now, You know the steamie deck of the poolside mom sweating away..... Tell him my trick was to not breathe that last strokes into the wall, head down and go for it. But, then I was just a AAU kid.....he should know that one.

I can't say I know how you feel, but I bet it stinks. A good friend came to work this morning after taking her daughter halfway across the country to start college, and she's a mess! I'm sure that he will find the perfect fit for him, and those coaches better see all of the potential that he has! It sounds like he's had more than his share of poor coaching influences. Sending positive thoughts to Ohio for him!

That's a fabulous photo of your son! Hope it all goes well for him there. But even if not, he has the support of his family, and together you can deal with whatever life throws at you! :)

Oh wow, memories. I remember taking our daughter to college, helping her decorate her dorm room.. seeing the sorority pledging in the big college commons.. and then leaving.. her.. there.. ::sigh:: And now in 2 days she'll be flying to Ohio with my granddaughters and I will have no daughter or granddaughters just half hour away. ::wah:: Life and it's consarned changes. :-(

Good luck for your son, I will be thinking positive thoughts for you both.

Meredith, No one ever told us just how tough it would be to be a loving Mother, did they? You're the epitome of wonderful and how lucky that boy of yours is to have you! Can't wait to hear the outcome. Nothing but the best thoughts being sent his way. Hugs, Annette

It is a hard task to see one's children going off to college. It takes some getting use to. I went through that with our 2 daughters and they seemed to do just fine. They were both in college for 5 years, the longer they were there the less I saw of them. That was the hard part....empty nest. But don't worry, soon as they need something they know where to come to. Good luck to your son with his swimming. Very nice pic, he looks like an Olympic star!
