Better

My Blog friends you are all the greatest.  You all know exactly what to say to cheer me up and cheer me on. Thanks for your encouraging words, they really help so much.
So while it is very stormy outside today, inside I am feeling calmer.  I know this is the right place for Mr. 18 year old, and I will adapt to seeing him a lot less.  Hopefully he will text or call me.  He is all moved in and my husband is on the way home.  Yikes, my baby is up there all by himself.  Well up there with the other swimmers and all the other athletes moving in today.  He will be fine, he will be fine, I just have to keep repeating this, he will be fine.
Have you met Susanne from Forget Me Not?
She is the loveliest of people, you have to go and visit.  You can see her adorable grandson and find out how she made yummy, chocolate candy.  Please follow her recipe if you want normal candy, but for me and my need for no sugar at all, I was able to adapt her recipe and make these!

If you know anything about me you know I cannot cook.  Really I am pathetic.   But these seemed easy enough and I had all the ingredients but the nuts.  So after a quick trip to the store I gave it a try. I melted the malt sweetened chocolate chips, boy they were not behaving properly probably due to the zero sugar content, so I added agave nectar and even some whipping cream to thin it all out a bit.  I stirred in the peanuts, placed spoonfuls on wax paper, stuck it in the fridge to harden and here we are.

I have to admit that Susanne's looked a wee bit more  appetizing, but who cares about looks, it is the taste that counts.  Mr 18 year old had a couple before he left and told me he liked them but they would be better just a little sweeter.  I can do that next time. Then he left me with this compliment,
" Not bad for you, Mom."  At least I think that is a compliment.  I do not know how much of anything I used, it was sort of a try it out as I go sort of thing.  I think they are delicious, and no sugar!!!! Hooray.
I have been cleaning, cleaning, and cleaning.  Mr 18 year old's room is sparkling.  And the rest of the house is looking spic and span.  My niece and her family arrive tomorrow for two days so I want it to be nice and clean for them.  It has given me something to focus on.  I am also focused on this bit of crochet.  I am attempting Lucy's Yarn Bag from Attic24.  I am loving the colors which are appearing very drab in this picture.  I may not be loving the size.  I may have to felt it to make it smaller, we shall see.  It has been a very nice distraction for me.

Max is still upset.  He has been hiding in my husband's closet all day.  The rain is not helping as it limits his time outside.  And then horror of all horrors look who showed up for the night.  Wrigley from next door!  His big brother is heading off to college, too.  So Wrigley is here for another sleepover.

How much more can poor Max take?

I am so glad that you are feeling better today! I am sure that Mr 18 year old will be in touch. You seem to be close to him. Lot's of adjusting to do though so he might not be able to for awhile...but then again he might just have to touch bases.
It will nice for you to have company. Keep busy with them. Have lots of laughs! Build memories. Hey! Let her do the cooking. lol
Poor Max! Stuck in the house with his neighbor. lol. The neighbor is cute though. Snuggle up with Max as I am sure he is missing your son also. Comfort each other. Hugs, Teresa

Thanks for the update, Meredith. Surprisingly it is cloudy and cool here with a few showers. Your Lucy bag looks very cheery and the recipe looks yummy. I made your chocolate chip cookie recipe today using coconut sugar and flour and oil which does not give any coconut flavor to the cookies...weird. This batch I threw in some grated zucchini that I had. The first batch I used honey and I think that was better than the coconut sugar. I also used applesauce for part of the oil which I think was better. You and yours are much in my thoughts with tears and smiles during this special transition. Your doggies are precious :)

It must be hard to watch your little boy venture out to be a grown-up. I think you are doing admirably- I'm certain that I will have a nervous breakdown in 18 or so years. Enjoy your candies, and sweet Wrigley! Max will be king of the castle again soon enough.

YIKES! Poor, poor Max, he will need a therapist if this keeps up. You mentioned him and as I scrolled I see that free loader from next door, and he looks like such a sweet dog too. Max really needs to come out of the closet. Do you think he is jealous because Wrigley is always sporting the latest hairdo? Maybe Wrigley is too much of a show off when no one is looking, lol. Thank you for mentioning my blog, I do appreciate it. I think I mentioned my nephew David went to Ohio State and is a now respiratory therapist. He lives in Columbus now and loves it. Sometimes being a mom is tough. My youngest daughter had wanted to join the Navy, but we insisted she attend college. For once she listened to us. It was much easier to send her to college than to say goodbye as she was getting on a ship. I can only imagine how terrified a parent would be when their child joins the service. I kept telling myself there are worse things than sending my girls off to college. Then it didn't seem so bad after all.

Hi Meredith, Everything is going to be ok...you just have to tell yourself that this is what life is all about when you have children. Give them wings so that they can fly on their own. I worried that once my kids were out on their own I would not see them much but that is not the case. You have a close relationship with your son and this is something he will always rely on in his heart and he will always be close. Our kids growing up goes soooooo fast! It feels like they were babies and one day you wake up and ask what happened? They are grown in a blink of an eye. One day though, you will have grandchildren and you will get to relive having your kids with you again, through your grandchildren. Your son is going to love being at OSU! Football season is about to start here and it is the best! ~Hugs, Patti, a Columbus, Ohio native.

Poor Max - I hope he soon feels better too.

Your peanut clusters look just like peanut clusters should - and very delicious. (It's hard to go wrong with chocolate and cream and nuts.)

Well, you will miss your son, that is for sure! But he will be fine. In my heart, I know that my son will be too. But the thing I hate most of all, is his lack of planning, and not knowing where he will be living and such.
I am thinking of you.
The candy looked really good!!
XO Kris

Hang in there! This may the start of a very cool new phase in your relationship with Mr. 18. My oldest nieces and nephew are leaving home, exploring who they are, and becoming really cool people. It's fun to be part of it.

That picture of Wrigley made me laugh so hard. He looks like trouble.

Thank you for the no-sugar candy recipe--I'm going to give that a try. Hey, the flavor is locked inside, right? ;)

Sending you a hug. The college thing is hard on a mom. xoxo
